Sandy Warhol bought her home in Hallieford 23 years ago, visiting it most weekends until three years ago when she retired and made Mathews her permanent home.
“It was through my daughter attending William and Mary that I found Mathews. Always wanting to have a flower farm, I purchased a site with enough land so I could fulfill my dream.” Sandy’s dream of a flower farm is not fully established but it’s well on the way.
Several types of fruit trees, many selections of herbs and a peony garden are growing well and are producing. Blossoming peony stems are harvested; a local florist sells them with proceeds going to the Mathews Historical Museum.
The paw paw trees are producing their fruits and Sandy makes good use of them in paw paw cakes, paw paw jelly and syrup. The persimmons and pomegranates are doing the same and Sandy also incorporates their fruits in so many tasty ways in her everyday cooking.
