‘Simplicity’ juried show opens at RAL Art Center

June brings a new exhibit to the RAL Art Center, 19 Main Street, Kilmarnock.
The 52 original artworks in this show, “Simplicity,” include paintings, photography, fiber art, glass and sculpture entered by member artists. Elizabeth (Liz) Harper of Essex County, a guild artist member at the Tappahannock Art Gallery, judged the show. She served seven years as TAG president and is now serving as that organization’s Chair of Artists Membership.
Harper announced the winners at a reception on Friday, June 7, at the RAL Art Center.
For first place, Harper selected “Citrus in a Bowl,” a pastel piece by Mel Neale. Harper remarked that it was “such a simple subject” and “beautifully painted in pastel with contrast and pops of light. The composition is enhanced by the lines drawing your eye to the subject, and the choice and application of colors make it a beautiful and classic piece. It’s one of those pieces that you see, and you know it is just right.”
