Shirley Elizabeth Owens Gwynn Shea was born on January 29, 1929 in Mathews, Va., and passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 94 years of age surrounded by her large and loving family. Shirley was a shining light and friend to anyone she met and found great pleasure in spending time with her family on the shores of the East Coast. She was a real estate property manager in Norwich, Connecticut, for over 30 years and loved being with her husband, Tom, and family and friends on Long Island Sound recreationally boating on their yacht, “Cloud Nine.”

After retirement, she and Tom traded in their boat for a recreational vehicle and traversed the East Coast to NASCAR races and southern Florida. They loved to split their time between Naples, Florida, and Mathews. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Thomas Shea; her mother, Estelle Virginia Shawn, and father, Joseph Stanley Owens, and is survived by her three daughters, Dianne Hudgins (Ernie) of Port Haywood, Va., Rita Records (Bob) of Moon, Va., Gwendolyn Collins (Robert) of Ledyard, Conn.; two sons, Bill Gwynn of Warner Robins, Ga., and James Gwynn (Phyllis) of Gloucester, Va.; a stepdaughter; Susan Shea of Hartford, Conn., and a stepson, Michael Shea of Rocky Hill, Conn. Shirley is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. The family held a private ceremony honoring her life and a private ceremony was held at Sanders Assisted Living.
