Sheriff outlines problems at Route 14/3 bridge project

Mathews Sheriff April Edwards discussed the ongoing VDOT project to replace a Route 14 bridge at the county line near Fort Nonsense on Thursday at a meeting of the county board of supervisors.
She said inadequate signage and traffic control are causing headaches there.
Traffic on the 1948 bridge is estimated at 11,500 vehicles a day by the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Edwards said she has asked VDOT to erect a jersey wall or some other barrier to prevent drivers exiting Windsor Road from turning left onto Rt. 14. People have been going around the barrels currently installed, she said, “and there will inevitably be an accident.”
Edwards said that some tickets had been written at the VDOT work zone, but that the tickets would have to “be tossed” because of inadequate signage for the westbound lane.
