Sharon Lee Ruliffson, 81, of Hudgins, beloved wife of James H. Ruliffson, Captain, USN-ret., passed away on August 2, 2023 after a 2½-year battle with cancer. She endured many other health problems during her 60½ years of marriage, in addition to the rigors of raising her two children alone through Capt. Ruliffson’s seven at-sea deployments to the Western Pacific, three of which were combat deployments during the Vietnam conflict. Sharon is the younger sister to Sally Tryon and Sandy Edwards, both living in the Greater Des Moines, Iowa, area. Sharon and James had two children, Lisa Leigh Stanley (Larry) and Craig James Ruliffson (deceased). Sharon has four grandchildren, Charles Russo, Christy Williams (James), Katelyn Nelson, and Kelly Nelson, and a single great-grandson, Everett Williams. She also has many nieces and nephews throughout the Midwest. Sharon will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to the many who knew her.
Sharon will be transported back to the town in which she and James grew up, Storm Lake, Iowa, with interment in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, 94 Cricket Hill Road, Hudgins, Va. 23076, which was instrumental in getting Sharon to the proper care in a time of crisis. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Va., is assisting the family.
