A $25 million general tort liability lawsuit has been filed against Pastor J. Chris Morgan and Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Cobbs Creek on behalf of a victim of sex abuse perpetrated by a former youth minister at the church.
The victim is asking for $5 million each on five different charges in the case, along with punitive damages. He has asked for a trial by jury. The suit was filed on June 22 in Mathews Circuit Court.
The suit stems from an incident that occurred in 2018, when the victim was 15 years old and was a member of the church’s Varsity youth group. He told one of his high school teachers about an incident in which Cornerstone Youth Pastor Kenneth Scott Marshall took him to Marshall’s home, slept in the bed with him, and performed fellatio on him.
The case was investigated, forensic evidence collected, and in September of 2019, Marshall was convicted of one felony count of forceful sodomy by intimidation against a 15-year-old boy with an intellectual disability. In Februa...
