American Legion posts in Gloucester and Mathews will hold Memorial Day observances on Sunday afternoon in the two counties.

At 2 p.m., Mathews Post 83 will host its bell ceremony at the post headquarters on Route 198 in Hudgins. The ceremony honors the memory of post members who have died in the past year. The program at the post headquarters will conclude with the playing of “Taps” and a gun salute fired by the post’s Honor Guard.
Following that, the Honor Guard will go to the Mathews Rotary Club’s “Flags for Heroes” display on Main Street where they will honor those remembered there. The display is located in the field next to Moughons Inc.
Those flags will be on display at that location beginning Friday and continuing through the Independence Day holiday. For more information on that program, visit www.mathewsrotaryclub.org/flagsforheroes.
The public is invited to both events. For information about Post 83, call 804-725-7422.
