State Sen. Ronald Louis Rice of Newark, New Jersey, died at his home on March 15, 2023.

First elected in 1986, he served the residents of Essex County in the New Jersey Senate for 36 years. He retired last August.

He was the son of the late Mary Sue King.

He is survived by his brother, Joseph Rice Sr. of Gloucester.

A Celebration of Life was held on March 25, 2023 at Perrys Funeral Home in Newark.
