It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Selma Lee Mitchell Winebarger, 96, born on Jan. 19, 1927 in Newport News, Va. She resided in Gloucester, Va. We know that her firm belief in God has given her peace. Her passions were God, Family, and Children. Selma was a full-time housewife and mother whose legacy of love towards children extended to include any and all family members because of her compassion for them. She was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support. Selma was number 11 in a family of 16 children, born to the late Alvin and Selma Mitchell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Winebarger, and is survived by two sons, Brian L. Winebarger and Michael R. Winebarger (Janet); four grandchildren, Dana Spence, Ashley Pels (Mike), Erin Miller (Don), John W. Winebarger; three great-grandchildren, Gabriel Mathews, Sam Spence, Ella Miller, and her only surviving sibling, John Edward Mitchell. A visitation was held on Friday, May 12, 2023, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. The funeral service took place on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, followed by a burial at Peninsula Memorial Park.
