Self-taught cook started with sourdough

“I love to keep doing something that makes other people happy,” explained Whitney Marciniak, owner of Suntangled LLC (maker of homemade crochet stuffies, sourdough baked goods, herbal salves and African decor).
Moving from Hanover County to the Woods Cross Road area of Gloucester where wildlife is abundant, Whitney obtained licenses and began her new career. First she retailed her crafts and, after one year, began adding baked goods. “I am basically a self-taught cook. I watched what my mother was doing in her cooking, and I knew then I would just love it. I did a lot of studying, reading and watching cooking classes on TV,” said Whitney.
“My first product was sourdough bread. It was Cody (LaBarr), my partner in life, who brought me the dry sourdough mix from the Amish country. It was my beginning starter and it’s still active today.”
