Scouting Night in Mathews to be held April 23

Scouting Night in Mathews will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, at Kingston Parish, 370 Main Street.
The event is open to all local families with children in kindergarten through fifth grade who are interested in learning more about Cub Scouting.
Scouting is a values-based youth development program that emphasizes leadership, character, citizenship, and outdoor adventure, said Jasmine Sharper, District Executive for Scouting America (formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America) in the Colonial Virginia Council.
Mathews County currently does not have an active Cub Scout pack. The previous pack shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sharper said, and she’s working with local volunteers and families to bring Scouting back to the area. “This Join Scouting Night is an important first step in that process, and we hope to gather enough interest to reestablish a vibrant, lasting program for local youth,” she said.
