Shelley Brown of Gloucester was on the five-member Virginia Tech horse judging team that competed at the All American Quarter Horse Congress held this month in Ohio. Brown, a sophomore majoring in animal and poultry sciences, placed fourth in halter judging.

Shelbi Stackler and Donna DeBaun, both of Gloucester, officially joined the Corps of Cadets at the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership (VWIL) of Mary Baldwin College during the annual Induction Parade on Sept. 1. Organized according to military structure, VWIL is the only all-female corps of cadets in the nation. It combines academics, physical training, leadership practice, military training and co-curricular activities to build tomorrow’s leaders in military and civilian service.
