Saving the lives of precious pets, one at a time

Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society was formed in 1912 to protect animals, and 108 years later, our mission remains unchanged.
GMHS’s animal welfare programs and services help thousands of pets and families every year, which we can do because of our friends and supporters like you. Here are just a few of the pets whose lives have been saved and transformed with your support.
“Biscuit” and “McGoo” are two dogs who found themselves in the care of GMHS. Both needed medical care, as they tested positive for heartworm disease. Heartworm disease is preventable, serious and potentially fatal if untreated.All dogs in the care of GMHS who test positive receive lifesaving heartworm disease treatment at a cost of up to $1,000 per dog, in addition to shelter, daily care, and routine veterinary care, including vaccines, medications, flea/tick treatments and spay/neuter surgery. Biscuit and McGoo have happily both met their forever families and are in foster-to-adopt while undergoing their treatments....
