Sarah Taylor takes 2nd in high jump at state meet

Mathews High School senior Sarah Taylor placed second in the girls’ high jump and seventh in the 55m hurdles at last week’s VHSL state indoor track championships, held at the Liberty University Indoor Track Complex.
Taylor was the highest placing, but not only, Blue Devil, at the Class 1/2 combined championships, which were held on March 1-2 at the Liberty University Indoor Track Complex. The MHS boys’ 4x800 relay team of Seth James, Adam Dustin, Gavin Dustin and Keith Taylor finished ninth as a unit, while sophomore Keith Taylor individually placed ninth in the boys’ high jump, 11th in the long jump and 15th in the 500m run.
Sarah Taylor cleared a distance of 5’00” in the high jump finals, just two inches off that of the state champion, Sydney Loder of Glenvar. Taylor’s time in the 55m hurdles was 9.32 seconds, less than a second off the winning pace (again Loder, who had a time of 8.59 seconds).
