Sandra Thornton has been elected to the board of directors of Sisters in the Spirit Ministries, Inc., of Gloucester Point.
A release said Thornton “brings to the board a deep spiritual commitment to serving the Lord, and her wide-ranging experience in the leadership of community organizations.”
Most recently, Thornton was case manager for the Salvation Army of Gloucester which also serves Mathews and Middlesex counties. In this capacity, she was a key resource and advocate for families in crisis, for the homeless, for children and for seniors. She also formerly served as the manager of the Laurel Shelter in Gloucester, an organization that served the needs of women and children victimized by domestic violence.
She is a retired Chief of Safety Training with the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore, and was also employed with the U.S. Department of Transportation Administration as a certified safety instructor. She is a cum laude graduate of Strayer University.
