Sandra Kaye McElroy Hicks, 79, of Gwynn’s Island, died on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023.

She graduated from Warwick High School in 1963 and retired from Dominion Energy after 20 years, previously working as a dental assistant, and a special education teacher’s aide at Poquoson Elementary School.

She was a former member of the Junior Achievement of Greater Hampton Roads and a member of the Hampton Roads Seventh-day Adventist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, George Kemper Hicks Sr.; her parents, Georgia Marie Coward (Sassen) and Woodrow James McElroy, and sister, Jeanne M. Tison.

Survivors include her daughter, Melanie Kaye Hicks, and her son, George Kemper Hicks Jr., both of Gloucester; a grandson and a great-grandson.
