Samuel Gilmore “Sam” Vogel, age 82, passed away on Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, at his home in Cobbs Creek, Virginia. Prior to his retirement, Sam was the Supervisor of Transportation at the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown. He was also the owner of V & M Service in Mathews and was a mechanic with Pulleys Marine on Gwynn’s Island. He was a member of Mathews Baptist Church in Hudgins. Sam loved his family, friends, fishing, his pets, Volkswagens and playing music. He was the drummer for both the Dynatones and the Imperials. “Sam never met a stranger.”
He was preceded by his parents, General Gustave Vogel and Mary Biddle Vogel, and his brother, John Wesley Vogel.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Ann Vogel; daughters, Janice Vogel, Diane Vogel and Susan Vogel; a brother, Harold Biddle Vogel, and grandsons, Samuel and Myles Spadaccini.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, from 1-2 p.m. at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Virginia, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2 o’clock in the funeral home chapel.
