SALVATORE LEONE JR.

Salvatore Leone Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on May 25, 2024, at 88 years old. He was born in Carini, Sicily, on April 21, 1936. He immigrated with his family to Brooklyn, New York, in 1955. He then returned to Sicily, married the love of his life, Rosalia Leone, in 1961, and brought her back to Brooklyn, where they lived for 11 years. They had four beautiful children and uprooted their family to Newport News, Virginia, where he went into the restaurant business with his brother-in-law and best friend, Cristoforo Russo. This resulted in many restaurant branches being open in various places, including Gloucester County where, ultimately, his family would reside. Anna’s Pizza in the Gloucester Court House was established on June 4, 1974. It is still in business today and is known as a Gloucester community staple.

Salvatore had many hobbies: hunting, fishing, gardening, watching wrestling (WWE), making sauce, family, home, and eating Italian food. His famous saying was “God bless America,” as he loved our country very much but never forgot his native hometown of Sicily, Italy. He was a friend to everyone and loved being surrounded by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Salvatore Leone Sr. and Rosa Leone; his daughter, Daniela Maria Lafata (Antonio), and siblings, Vita Ingargiola (Antonino), Philip Leone, and Cristoforo Russo.

Survived by his wife of 63 years, Rosalia Leone; his children, Salvatore Leone III (Martha), Maurizio Leone (Gale), and Rosa Leone-Hogge (Jay); his grandchildren, Salvatore Leone IV (Sandy), Rosolia Reuss (Craig), Anna Philips (Marc), Cristina Schultz (Chris), Amanda Lewis (Brandon), Jessica Tamplet (Austin), Nadia Lyerly (Jon-Tyler), Ivana Lafata, Michela Lafata (Jamey), John Hogge III, Salvatore Hogge, and Isabella Hogge, and great-grandchildren, Salvatore V, Zack, Sawyer, Sophia, Cason, Skylar, Lena, Noah, Cooper, Sadie, Preston, Gigi, Adam, Luke, Abby, Adelina, Maurina, Paul, and James; his siblings, Josephine Russo, Rosalia Leone, Mimma Leone (Aggie), and Anthony Leone Sr. (Debbie), and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends. The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Monday, June 3, 2024, from 5-6:30 p.m. The Christian Funeral Liturgy, conducted by Father Gregory Kandt, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Church of St. Therese, 6262 Main Street, Gloucester, Virginia 23061, followed by entombment at Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Following the entombment, a reception will be held at Providence Baptist Church social hall. He was a beloved Husband, Daddy, Brother, Nonno, Zio, and friend. He will be extremely missed. May he rest in eternal peace—services under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home.
