Russell Allen Bergum, 68, of Saluda, Va., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014 in Lake Taylor Hospital in Norfolk.
He was born in Elmhurst, Ill.,, and retired from GTE as a switchman in 1999. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a front line medic during the Viet Nam War. He was a member of the Gloucester Moose Lodge, #886, a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the American Legion and DAV.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Joseph Bergum and his parents, Glenn C. and Mary Merkle Bergum.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Bergum; daughter, Nina Mitchell; brother, Glenn Raymond Bergum and his wife Judith; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hooper and her husband Otis; grandsons, Zachary Goodman and Quentin Goodman; five nieces; two nephews; three great-nieces, and four great- nephews.
The family will receive friends at Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014 from 6-7:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Monday, Nov. 3, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milner’s Road, Suffolk, Va. 23434.
