Ruby Rose Davis McAbee, 79, of Cumberland County, departed this life on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at her home.

She was born Jan. 5, 1936, in Farmville, Va., to Ernest and Alda Davis. Ruby Rose was preceded in death by her parents, several siblings, and her loving husband of 37 years, Willie T. “Billy” McAbee Sr. 

Ruby Rose was a homemaker, loving mother and caregiver to many throughout her life. She was a lifetime member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Cumberland County.

She is survived by one brother, Ernest C. Davis (Mary Jane Dowdy) of Cumberland; three sons, Willie T. “Billy Jr.” (Sharon), Ernie (Frankie), both of Farmville, and Joseph “Matt” McAbee (Susan) of Hamilton, Ohio; five daughters, Cynthia (Cindy) Wiatt (Mark) of Gloucester, Brenda Grant (Jesse) of Farmville, Ruth Ann Jamerson, Tammie Brown (John), and Terry McAbee, all of Cumberland; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by sisters-in-law, Peggy Wood (Norris) of Georgia, Virgie Martin (Lewis) of Farmville, Loretta Davis of Cumberland and Dora Davis of Chesterfield, and brother-in-law, Donnie McAbee (Sharon) of Mechanicsville.

Visitation with the family will be held Thursday, March 5, 2015, from 5-9 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home, 1905 South Main Street, Farmville. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, March 6, 2015, at 2 in the afternoon at Centenary United Methodist Church, 1280 Guinea Road, Farmville, in Cumberland County.
