Members of the York River Garden Club visited the ruins of Rosewell in Gloucester on Oct. 14, first stopping at the Visitor Center/Museum where Rosewell Foundation Executive Director Elizabeth Judd talked about the once-abundant gardens on the estate during the 18th and 19th centuries. Mann Page began construction of the mansion in 1725 and it was occupied by the Page family for 100 years. In 1916 a fire swept the mansion and it was never rebuilt. At left, Jane Dixon and Sylvia Ransone, from left, were among the club members who toured the ruins. The club meets the second Thursday of each month from September through May, with most meetings held at Bethany United Methodist Church in Gloucester Point. New members are welcome. For more information, call Cindy Cromwell at 301-919-2168 (cell).
