Ronald Frederick Madsen, 81, of Richmond and formerly of Buffalo, N.Y., and Gloucester, Va., passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 30, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eola Mae Madsen.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeri E. Madsen; daughter, Kristie Durand (Charles); sons, Ward R. Madsen, and Allen E. Madsen; grandson, Allen C. Madsen; granddaughter, April Vasquez, and a host of extended family and friends.
He was a retired U.S. Air Force meteorologist and a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He could repair anything, loved to travel, and was a licensed pilot. His love of flight began with many Control-Line model airplanes and progressed to R/C model airplanes. He was a longtime member of the Southeast Virginia Light Aircraft Flyers and his favorite hobby in retirement was flying his ultralight airplane.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at the Atlee Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, Route 301 and Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, with a memorial service to follow. His interment in Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, N.Y. with his son, Peter S. Madsen, will follow at a later date.
