Gloucester High School track athletes Mia Robinson and Khadijah Payne placed in the top six in their events at the 5A South Regional Track and Field Championship Meet Saturday at Atlee High School in Mechanicsville, which qualified them to advance to the Group 5A State Meet at Todd Stadium Friday and Saturday.
Payne, a senior, will compete in the shot put at the state meet. She was the sixth best qualifier going into the finals on Saturday where she tossed the shot 35’8.75” on her first throw for fourth place in the region and the state meet bid.
Robinson, a sophomore bothered by an injury earlier this season, started her pole vault event with a broken pole and had to borrow one. After adjusting to the pole, Robinson cleared 9’6” for a personal record and sixth place.
