Robin Edwards Moneypenny, 71, of Spartanburg, S.C., passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Robin was born on October 10, 1953 in Gloucester County, Virginia, to the late Clyde Alton Edwards and surviving mother, Billie R. Edwards.
After high school graduation from York Academy in Shacklefords, Va., Robin attended Lenior-Rhyne College in Hickory, N.C., where she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Following graduation from nursing school, she practiced in the clinic, home, and public health settings in both the Carolinas and Kentucky.
Robin was a beloved, wife, mother, and daughter; survived by her mother, Billie R. Edwards of Hayes, Va.; husband of 45 years, Gary W. Moneypenny; her daughter, Lindsay M. Hurley and husband John E. Hurley; her son, Rian M. Moneypenny; grandchildren, Mason Hurley, Claire Hurley, and Lillian Hurley, all of Spartanburg County.
Robin was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Gloucester Point, Va. She was an avid athlete, who enjoyed playing both basketball and softball, but particularly basketball, where she competed at both the high school and collegiate level. She loved spending time with her family and had a passion for travel, especially cherishing trips to the beach, the mountains, and the American West.
A private family service will be held in her hometown of Gloucester Point, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the following charitable organizations that honor both her interests and legacy: Women’s Refugee Commission, www.womensrefugeecommission.org/donate/, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org or a charitable organization of your choice.
