Robert “Bob” Whittaker Thayer Jr., 71, of Gloucester, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at his home.
He was born in Charleston, W.Va., and was the son of the late Robert W. and Leona Thayer Sr. He was the retired owner of Commonwealth H2O Service, Inc., for over 30 years. Bob was an avid hunter and taught hunter safety classes for many years. He was a member of Petsworth Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. He was a member of the Gloucester Chamber of Commerce, Gloucester Rotary Club, member and past president of the Gloucester Jaycees, past president of the Gloucester County Fair Association, and taught Sunday school at Sanders Nursing Home for many years.
He is survived by his wife Angela Thayer; sons, Greg Thayer (Gina), Michael Thayer; stepsons, Kevin Arden II and Michael Arden (Casey); his stepmother, Susie Thayer; brother, Charles Thayer; half brother, Todd Thayer, and grandchildren, Matthew, Afton, and Nataleigh.
A memorial service was held in the chapel of Andrews Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at 7 p.m.
