ROBERT REED HORNBY

Robert Reed Hornby (Bob) of Gloucester, Va., passed away on Jan. 13, 2014.
 
He was born in Long Branch, N.J., to the late Burchard and Ruth Hornby.
 
He is survived by his wife, Linda Meadows Hornby; two step-sons, Paul Meadows and wife Darlene, and Matthew Meadows and wife Lisa, all of Manassas, Va.; six grandchildren, Ryan, Justin, Matt, Andrew, Scott, and Krista; two great-grandchildren, Grady and Bryce; many wonderful friends, and special friends, Bob and Barbara Wiener and Ed Henn.
 
He loved to play tennis. Bob supported our country by volunteering to serve in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1950-1954. 
 
Bob graduated from Monmouth University with a four-year degree in business. He worked several years with a government contractor in Manassas. Bob enjoyed learning and reading. He went back to college and received a degree in teaching. He taught ESL and GED classes in Manassas.
 
Funeral services will be held at Newington Baptist Church, 6169 Main Street, Gloucester, Va., on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at 11 a.m. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
 
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Newington Baptist Church Building Fund.
