Robert Paul Seaford Jr., age 66, of Gloucester, died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding as a Master Shipbuilder with 41 years of service, and was a graduate of the Apprentice School and Thomas Nelson Community College. Robert was a man of many talents—a high school athlete, licensed electrician, expert firewood splitter, and handyman. He was spending his retirement years remodeling a mountain cabin. He was a hardworking family man that helped neighbors and friends throughout his life. He spent several years volunteering with the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Department and maintaining soccer fields for the Gloucester Baystars Soccer Club. His lifelong dedication in the service of his fellow man won him the respect and friendship of many. He loved his family and country, and was proud of both.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathy Seaford; sons, Matthew Seaford and Tommy Seaford; daughter-in-law, Michelle Seaford, and grandchildren, Triston, Kennedy, Owen, Brennan, Avery, and Thatcher. He is also survived by his brother, Blair Seaford (Lamis), and sister, Paulette Gouger (Jimmy).
The family received friends on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home. Masks were required for entry and social distancing was mandatory. A private graveside ceremony will be held at Rosewell Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Department (www.avfr.com) or the Gloucester Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad (www.gvfrs.org).
