Robert Edward Stokes, was born on May 26, 1967 in Greenport, Long Island, New York, to Nellie Cosby-Verilus and Garfield Stokes. On Friday, January 13, 2023, Robert was meditating and asked, “Father God, am I able to do this one?” The angel and their wings came shortly thereafter on Sunday, January 15, 2023.

Robert accepted Jesus Christ at an early age while living in New York and became a member of our Lord Jesus Christ’s family. He moved to Gloucester, Virginia, with his mother, Nellie. Robert loved helping people and praising God through song and prayer. Some of Robert’s favorite scriptures were Hebrews 4:11, Psalms 119:133, and Philippians 4:13. Robert truly loved his family.

Robert was preceded in death by a host of relatives from the Cosby, Stokes, and Hayes families.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Nellie Verilus; step-dad, Julesaint Verilus; devoted friend, Carol Ruff; two nieces, Antenette Stokes, of Richmond, Virginia, and Bethany Stokes of New York; three sisters, Kimberly Stokes Davis-Stepney (Kamala) of Webster, New York, Denise Gonzales (Frank) of North Carolina, and Lartarsha Johnson of Gloucester; two brothers, Frantz Verilus (Maria) of Gloucester and Judenel Verilus of Haiti; two aunts, Gloria Boyd (Orien) and Joyce E. Cosby; one uncle, Roy E. Cosby, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Emmaus Baptist Church, North. A viewing will be held at the church from 11 a.m. until the hour of service. Masks will be required.
