Robert Earl Hackett of Saluda, passed away on January 12, 2025 in his home with family. Bob was born in Epping, New Hampshire, on November 28, 1942 to John D. and Eunice R. Hackett Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Weston, and sister, Kathryn. Bob was a proud 30-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, retiring as the Command Master Chief of the USS Coral Sea CV-43. He was a member of the King William Ruritan Club. He enjoyed his miniature horses, attending horse shows and participating in local parades along with family. Bob loved people and never met a stranger anywhere. He loved boating, camping and fishing with friends. He loved the wildlife around his home and enjoyed feeding the birds. Most of all, he loved his recently adopted Pomeranian named Lami, which he affectionately called “Buddy.”
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Marilyn J. Hackett; his daughters, Felicia Kalber (Matt) of Glen Allen, Va., and Danielle Wilson (Tony) of Quinton, Va.; his grandchildren, Madison (Josh), Kendall, A.J. and Carter. He is also survived by his brother, Danny Hackett (Diana) of Oregon.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 12-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at his home. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
