Robert “Bob” C. Howard, 87, of Mathews, Va., passed away on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013.
Bob was born on April 29, 1926 in Sharpsburg, Md. He had been a resident of Mathews County for over 47 years.
Bob retired from the U.S. Navy after proudly serving his country for 22 years. He served in World War II and the Korean War. After moving to Mathews, he worked for the County of Mathews in Maintenance and he also worked for Ocean Products Research.
Bob had a great sense of humor and a very kind heart. He filled his days doing for his family, friends and those in need. He enjoyed working in his flower gardens and keeping his yard beautiful. He loved sharing his lovely flowers with others.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Howard; two daughters, Paula Hubbard (Greg) of Florida, and Donna Tomlin of Idaho, along with two sons, Raymond Howard (Laurel) and Robert C. Howard Jr., both of Oregon. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Nelda Gibbs (Stuart) and Beverly Cavazos (Ben); eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and a very special friend, Andy Hurst.
Bob enjoyed the years he spent volunteering for Meals on Wheels. It was his request that memorial donations be made to the Mathews County Meals on Wheels Program, c/o Nelda Gibbs, P.O. Box 369, Mathews, Va. 23109.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 1:30 p.m. with a memorial service following in the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home Chapel at 3 o’clock.
