Robert Alton Reid, 74, of Gloucester Point, died unexpectedly March 27, 2015.

He was a graduate of N.C. State and University of Minnesota with a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering. He worked in refrigeration and air condition engineering. Bob enjoyed sailing and lived aboard his sailboat for many years. He was instrumental in the organization of the Virginia Helicopter Association in which he was a very active member. Bob flew helicopters for private service. Bob was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir.

He was preceded in death by parents, Alton B. and Bernice I. Reid.

He is survived by brother, Thomas M. Reid of Yorktown.

Memorial service conducted by the Rev. Deborah Marion will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1860 Hayes Road, Gloucester Point, Va. 23062. Inurnment will be private. The family will greet friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
