Quilter Emma Jane Powell, an instructor at the Cary (N.C.) Quilting Company, will be the guest speaker at the Friday, Sept. 27 meeting of the River Country Quilters, speaking about Arpilleras.
The program will be held at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Gloucester. The group’s social and registration begins at 6:30 p.m., with the meeting starting at 7.
Born and raised in North Carolina, Powell has lived in D.C., Virginia, and abroad before settling back in N.C. She has been quilting for three decades, following in the footsteps of her grandmother.
Powell fell in love with learning about Latino culture in high school, a release said. Since then, she has studied abroad in Spain, taught English in Costa Rica, and traveled extensively in Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Mexico.
