Courtenay Hughes, standing, presented a daytime workshop Aug. 24 to the River Country Quilters Guild. Members learned techniques for making a Disappearing Hourglass quilt. That evening, she addressed the group’s regular meeting. She is on the education team at Missouri Star Quilt Academy, teaching quilting, embroidery and appliqué. At the meeting, she shared the history of MSQC; focusing on what MSQC’s founder Jenny Doan is famous for, making quilts that look difficult, easy for everyone. The River Country Quilters’ next meeting will be on Tuesday at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church on Main Street in Gloucester. Social time and check-in is at 6:30 p.m., the business meeting starts at 7 and, at 7:30, Nancy Roche (will present “Reflections of Slavery and the Underground Railroad.” The presentation will focus on how quilters affected the movement.
