Gloucester tennis players Christine Riddett and Olivia Edwards advanced this week to the Peninsula District Tournament semi-finals in both singles and doubles. The sophomores, who have been the Dukes’ top seeds this season, are seeded second and seventh, respectively, in the tournament.
Riddett won her opening match 6-1, 6-0 over Katie Goodrich of Warwick last Thursday at Hungtington Park in Newport News. She then blanked Maelyn Platon of Menchville 6-0, 6-0 in the second round. On Tuesday, Riddett defeated Violet Hahn of Menchville 6-4, 7-4 in a two-hour quarterfinals match.
Edwards first won 6-1, 6-4 over Maura Lahrach of Denbigh and beat Ellary Ganton of Warwick 6-2, 6-3 in the second round. On Tuesday, Edwards got by Kenya Northern 7-5, 7-5 in the quarterfinals in a match that also stretched two hours.
