Gloucester High School tennis players Christine Riddett and Olivia Edwards will compete in the Peninsula District Tournament semifinals today but their teammates were eliminated in earlier rounds.
Ranked first in the district, Riddett defeated Menchville’s Alaina Goss in straight 6-1 sets in the first round Friday and the Monarchs’ first seed Racquel Rizzi 6-1, 6-0 in her next match. On Tuesday, Riddett beat sixth ranked Abi Castro in straight 6-0 sets in the quarterfinals.
Edwards, ranked third, defeated Warwick’s Meg Lenz 7-5, 6-0 in the first round before defeating Warwick’s Casey Williams 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. On Tuesday, Edwards beat Ellary Gantan of Warwick 6-4, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
Ranked first in district doubles, Riddett and Edwards beat Bethel’s number one team 6-0, 6-1 before defeating Warwick’s Lenz and Williams in straight 6-0 sets.
