A funeral for Richard Lee Ford Jr., 85, of Gloucester, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, in Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. He died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014.
He was born March 6, 1929, and raised in Norfolk, Va., graduating from Maury High School in 1947. An Eagle Scout in Norfolk Troop 15, he was also a member of the Corps of Cadets at Virginia Tech and graduated in Architectural Engineering, Class of 1951. He was a Korean War veteran, serving as a First Lieutenant in the 339th Engineer Battalion.
As a Professional Engineer, he worked at Fort Norfolk for many years with the Army Corps of Engineers and then completed his career with TRADOC at Fort Monroe. After retirement, he lived in Radford and was a member of Pulaski Memorial Baptist Church for many years and most recently was a resident at Sanders Assisted Living in Gloucester.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard L. Ford Sr. and Lucy Bond Ford, and his brother, James Lawrence Ford.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dollie Wright Ford; son, Richard L. Ford III of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter Susan M. Ford, and a grandson.
The service was conducted by the Rev. Thomas Bunting.
