Richard Jones, 84, of Bohannon in Mathews County, Virginia, U.S. Army Infantry Officer, retired; loving husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa, avid hunter and friend to everyone, passed away on October 12, 2023.

Richard was the son of the late Eugene and Verdie Jones and has now joined his Lord and has been reunited with his wife of 58 years, Suzy. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia, and brother, Warren.

He was born in Sarasota, Florida, and graduated from University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, with a commission through the ROTC. He had a successful career in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1986 with two tours of duty in Vietnam and multiple commendations and a Bronze Star for valor. He continued a life of service volunteering in numerous organizations including the American Legion and Kingston Episcopal Parish.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: son, Rick Jones, daughter, Caroline Webster (Chuck), and son, Daniel Jones (Gretchen); grandchildren, Sam, Sarah, Jenn, Nick, Jack, Cody, Will and Margo; great-grandchildren, Killian and Shiloh, and brother, Bruce.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Kingston Parish, where a reception will follow immediately after. Donations in his memory may be made to American Legion Post 83, P.O. Box 561, Mathews, Va. 23109. Interment will follow at a later date where he will be reunited with his wife, Suzy, at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
