Richard Eugene Callis, 78, a lifelong resident of Cobbs Creek, Virginia, passed away peacefully in his home, with his loved ones by his side on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. He was born on May 10, 1946 to Friedenwald and Myrtle Callis at their home in Cobbs Creek. He served in the Air National Guard of Virginia, as well as the Army National Guard. Richard was the founder and owner of R&W Marine Construction, Inc., which he started with his brother, Wayne Callis, in the mid-1970s. He oversaw and managed his business until his death. In his younger years, Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, waterskiing, sailing, and boating. He was a faithful member of Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church where he attended services every Sunday while able. Richard was a devoted family man and will be remembered for his love for his wife of 30 years, Jamie; son Ricky, and his siblings, along with their family pets, and also his generosity to the community.
Richard was predeceased by Jamie; his parents; two brothers, Wayne Callis and Melvin Callis, and a sister, Rita Callis.
He is survived by his only son, Richard Callis Jr. (Sydney); beloved “grand dog” Flynn; his siblings, Leonard Callis, Linda Simmons (Milton), and Janie Davis (Jimmy); several nieces and nephews; and longtime family friend and employee, Laura Morgan.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 1-2 p.m. at Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church, Cobbs Creek, with a memorial service to follow at 2 o’clock. The family would like to express their gratitude to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice and Tammy Davis, who cared for Richard until his death.
