Phillip Hamilton, author of a number of books and journal articles dealing with America’s founding era, will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Cobbs Creek Arts Center.
His talk will be “Life, Death and Victory in Revolutionary Virginia: George Washington, Henry Knox and the Yorktown Campaign.” He is currently writing a biography of General Henry Knox.
Hamilton, a professor of history at Christopher Newport University, will discuss a friendship between George and Martha Washington and Henry and Lucy Knox. A release said he will use their personal correspondence to examine their public triumphs and private worries. “The lecture particularly focuses on how Washington and Knox each sought to balance their crushing military responsibilities with family responsibilities,” the release said.
