Retirement party Saturday at Southern States for Sheppard

Longtime Southern States Gloucester employee and warehouse manager George Sheppard is retiring after 18 years. Sheppard’s last day is Saturday and will be paired with a retirement party with the celebration taking place throughout the day.
“It’s been a lovely 18 years,” said Sheppard.
Sheppard said he has enjoyed meeting people that come through the store either as customers or coworkers. He said the people at Southern States are a second family to him. The people, he said were what he would miss most in retirement.
“There will never be another George,” said Southern States Gloucester general manager Candace Lawson. Lawson mentioned there will be a hole at the business after Sheppard leaves. She said people will miss hearing his booming laugh that can be heard throughout the building.
In retirement, Sheppard said he plans on spending more time fishing, golfing and lead Bible study classes at his church. However, he said retirement won’t keep him from coming by Southern States to see hi...
