Repairs made after lightning strikes library’s internet tower

In an electrical storm on the evening of Sept. 12, lightning struck the microwave radio tower from which phone and internet services are received at the main library in Main Street Center, library director Diane Rebertus said.

The county’s Information Technology Department coordinated with Cox Business to supply a permanent internet connection for the main library. Cox installed the new connection on Sept. 18.

Daniel McGowan, the county’s network administrator, installed and configured a security appliance at the main library to allow secure connectivity back to the county network, Rebertus said in an Oct. 7 memorandum to County Administrator Brenda G. Garton. The Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone system and internet were fully restored by Sept. 20.
