The yearlong, $1.2 million renovation of New Point Comfort Lighthouse is well on its way to completion.
Representatives of McPherson Design Group, which provided the detailed architectural plans for the renovation, visited the site Friday to conduct a final inspection of the exterior before the scaffolding is removed. They were accompanied by First Class Contracting Superintendent David Mayhew and Mathews County Planning and Zoning Director Thomas Jenkins.
McPherson partner Marcos Freeman, who is serving as project manager for the design team, said some flashing on the lantern room would need some attention, but other than that, “everything looks good.” Christine Reynolds of WJE, which is a subcontractor for McPherson, agreed, saying she just saw the need for some touch-up paint here and there.
Mayhew said he would address the issues, including adding another already-planned coat of paint to the entire structure before the scaffolding comes down. He said he had hoped to have everything...
