The Mathews High School forensics team took top honors as champions of the VHSL 1A/1B Super Regional competition at Galileo Magnet High School in Danville, and the team’s coach Steve Casper was awarded the title of VHSL 1A/1B Super Regional Champion Coach. Three team members took first place—Sandra Baer (prose interpretation), Grace Lewis (poetry interpretation) and Kathleen Winters (serious dramatic interpretation). Taking second place were Sara Abbitt (poetry interpretation), Haley Hoell (serious dramatic interpretation) and Aiden Sowers (impromptu speaking). Captain Henry Barnett took third in original oratory. Samantha Hodge placed fourth in prose interpretation, and Hannah Stillwaggon came in fifth in impromptu speaking.
