Connie Johnson, right, the Mathews High School top-seeded singles player, is the Region 1A singles champion. She dominated the Middlesex Chargers Maddie Green, 6-0, 6-0, to earn the regional title. Johnson will play William Campbell’s Sabrina Dickerson at Virginia Tech in the VHSL State 1A Singles Tournament semifinals on Friday, June 11 at 9 a.m. Johnson remains undefeated in singles play for the 2021 season. Green and Virginia Reinhardt defeated Johnson and Kylie Berry in a tough three-set loss of 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 in the Region 1A doubles finals.
