Reggae, ska concerts planned in Hampton

The City of Hampton will host a pair of musical events in the coming week, beginning with All Day Reggae from 2-10 p.m. Saturday at East Queens Way and Kings Way in downtown Hampton.
Reggae legend Johnny Osbourne will be among those performing. This event is a part of the Downtown Hampton Development Partnership’s Block Party concert series.
Beginning next Thursday, Sept. 14 and continuing through Sunday, Sept. 17, the Supernova International Ska Festival will be held at Fort Monroe and features nearly 40 ska and reggae bands from 10 countries.
The festival will include bands from Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, who played to a global audience at the 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics, to Sister Nancy, a Jamaican legend and one of the most sampled artists in history. Ska music was the predecessor to reggae music and originated in Jamaica in the 1950s.
