A congregational meeting of Kingston Episcopal Parish, Mathews, decided to embark on a two-year study toward the preservation and reuse of its long-vacant rectory, located at Mathews Court House. Senior warden Marti Bowen said the congregation met in the summer to consider removal of the house, which was purchased by the parish in 1894; sentiment toward saving it led to Sunday’s decision. Bowen said a committee has two years to study preservation needs, costs, and future uses of the old property, with an eye to creating two apartments. No one has lived in the house for more than 20 years, and no rector has resided there for a longer period, she said. Affordable housing for teachers may be a future use, Bowen said.
