Recount to be held Friday in county board race

A recount to determine the third and final winner of the Nov. 5 general election for the Mathews County Board of Supervisors will be held at 9 a.m. Friday in Mathews County Circuit Court.
Three, four-year terms on the board were up for election, with Paul W. Hudgins (1,956 votes) and Melissa Mason (1,668 votes) leading the ballot. For the third vacant seat, Jackie Ingram (1,463 votes) at present is leading incumbent supervisor G.C. Morrow (1,457 votes) by six votes, with Morrow requesting the recount.
A separate special election was also held for a two-year vacancy on the county board, with Michael Rowe defeating Carol Bova and Michael Schramm.
Motion filed
Mathews County has filed a motion with Mathews Circuit Court asking the court to dismiss a motion made by Morrow in his suit against the Mathews County Electoral Board. In the motion, Morrow asks the court to determine the total number of voters and ballots in the election.
