Some of the hard-working employees who were due to be recognized at the June 6 End-of-Year Ceremony for Mathews County Public Schools were still busy working that day, so they couldn’t be recognized. The Mathews County School Board sought to remedy that, recognizing them during the July 18 meeting. Those who were able to make it were, from left, Clyde Royals (who received his 20-year pin working in school transportation), Calvin Morgan (who retired after six years as the Mathews High School carpentry teacher), Nancy Buchanan (who retired after 39 years as a cafeteria worker) and Rhonda Pugh (marking 20 years in cafeteria/transportation), along with school superintendent Dr. David S. Daniel. Several others who received years-of-service pins as bus drivers were on vacation or otherwise unable to attend. They are, not pictured, Theresa Ashberry (35 years), Donna Edwards (30 years), Cassie Jenkins (15 years) and Jeanie Smith and Ronnie Jenkins (10 years).
