Gloucester supervisors have extended the deadline for residents to appeal the results of a recently completed general real property reassessment from Dec. 31, 2022 to Jan. 17, 2023.
The action was taken during an emergency meeting held last Wednesday in the T.C. Walker Education Center. The Gloucester Board of Supervisors approved the extension unanimously.
The original Dec. 31 appeal deadline resulted in complaints from Gloucester residents about the timing of the notification. December is a busy month for many due to the holidays and the prior deadline gave residents little time to not only appeal but to provide evidentiary support.
Reassessment letters were mailed out to Gloucester residents the week prior to the meeting and quickly caused concern among property owners. Many residents have seen the values of their property increase dramatically.
