RCC welding facility opens in New Kent

Rappahannock Community College has transformed the cafeteria area in the former New Kent High School into a state-of-the-art instructional welding facility, which was officially opened last week.
The facility has 11 individual training booths. Dual-enrolled high school students will attend in the morning or the afternoon and adult students will attend in the evenings. Saturday classes will begin later this year.
By May 2025, these students will learn Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux Cored Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding and ASME IX Pressure pipe welding. Students will then also be ready to become certified and head into the workforce.
The facility has all new Lincoln 300C multi-process welders, Lincoln Prism welding extractors and Miller Dynasty 400 water cooled TIG machines.RCC is still enrolling for evening classes beginning on Sept. 17.
